"Woke up and saw the product is down" -> For me: 🚨 🚨🚨 For him: eh
"Self hosting is still unbeatable" -> He is bragging about his cost/month in $. No thought of the disruption to customers.
Yes, self-hosting is the most price-efficient option out there. But reliability and service to your customers matters. Waking up on a Sunday morning and not needing to put out scaling fires matters.
It's a trade-off of price vs peace-of-mind (for you AND your customers).
